Mostly climate around the movie. Tons of people throwing out cheap 2d films, Disney being no exception (looking at you, Recess the Movie). People were less than thrilled with the mediocre stuff being released, Disney tried to bridge the gap by putting in expensive 3d elements, and it still didn't bring anyone in. TLDR, expensive movie that noone wanted to watch.
