I killed the king (I think) should i use the cave key somewhere or just do another normal run?
to progress the story, find where the cave key goes (spoilers, so i wont tell you where it goes)
if you did beat THOTK, then you have to use the BC you got to get the next one from him, which is a 1BC run
adding a BC to your runs makes them harder, but gives you more rewards and progresses the story
So I have not advanced with the story only because I am too lazy to interact? fantastic

Pan is a really good weapon, don't remember much else but being fast is normally good
the golden pan has a coll kill icon
