of the Van Deer H-Power 78's I bought yesterday:
they're good, better than all the rental ski's I have been using up until now
its nice to finally have a ski that can handle more than what I am able to give it, and I mean that in a good way, since it means I still have room to improve
conditions today weren't perfect, icy snow and cloudy so the slopes didn't have much contrast, but it should snow over the next few days and be sunny afterwards and I'm here till friday so I should be able to really push them come the end of the week, ergo this is still provisional, I haven't given them my all yet
if I had to describe the characteristics;
>on the heavier side of ski's Ive used, they may not be at 2.2kg a piece, lets say 2.7 with bindings, but they feel like anchors on my feet when jumping, this is probably me just not being used to them however
>they cut really well, the few pistes where I could actually carve, I could push my outer leg as hard as I wanted, they did not slip
>no discernible bias towards short or long turns, hugging the side of the slope bouncing from turn to turn, while not effortless, wasn't exhausting
I'll add to this as I go, Ive only used them for a day, but so far I'm satisfied
4 days in:
>jumps; quite good actually, I was just jumping them wrong
>they're forgiving towards bad technique, but they shine with good technique
>conditions improved yesterday and I was able to push them towards ~110kph, during which they remained stable, and I wasnt going as fast as I could
I want to try them in proper powder, but the snow here is a few weeks old and too icy to be a good measure of how they perform, and the forecast isnt looking very promising so that might have to wait
found a nice run with a mixture of decent-ish powder and powdery moguls
and they performed fine, they're definitely more groomer oriented, but they handled themselves good enough, about what I was expecting
I never felt them digging in in a way that I couldn't recover from, although they're definitely not as floaty as a powder ski
I wouldnt recommend it to an inexperienced skier though, since it did require a good amount of effort to keep them on top of the snow
