Also, he and the the american pilot, a man named Charlie Brown, reunited in Canada during the 1990s. They became close friends, passing away within a few months of each other in 2008.

His name was Franz Stigler. He got nine men back to their families for Christmas. He was one of the few examples of humanity during those cruel times.
